At the top of Soi 8, near Nana BTS there are several bars and pubs full of expats, street food carts and massage places. Moving deeper into the Soi and it becomes more residential, taking on a much quieter feel.

Just before the change tucked slightly away from the Soi is the pleasant surprise of Kinnaree, a charming gem of a Thai restaurant.

Still having the memories of our bites from eating on the riverside in Chiang Mai, we choose to bypass the garden terrace. Inside the restaurant is gorgeous, with a dark teak interior and beautiful Thai style artifacts on the walls. The lotus plates in front of each diner are also a nice touch.

The menu is extensive and whilst more expensive than I had been expecting (main dishes ranged from 300-600B – a couple of hundred baht more than I am used to paying for say Penang curry), the food is lovely and I can fully recommend the crying tiger beef and the soft-shelled crab cooked in tamarind – my mouth is drooling whilst I type at the thought!

It’s a great place to bring visitors to Bangkok!
